The Indian subsidiary of Doosan Bobcat Inc. commenced the commercial operations of its first manufacturing facility in India at Gummudipoondi, near Chennai. Initially, the company will produce backhoe loaders completely designed and developed by its engineering team based in Chennai. The B900 Backhoe Loader would be officially launched in October, said the company. Doosan Bobcat India plans to invest ₹190 crore over the next five years, the company said in a statement.

The new, state-of-the-art factory, spread across 21.6 acre, has fabrication, warehouse, assembly and paint shop facilities. It has a capacity to produce 8,000 units per annum.

“This new facility will cater to the increasing demand for backhoe loaders to support the development of India’s infrastructure and construction segments. India is one of the key markets for Doosan Bobcat to maintain the global leadership in compact segment,” said Scott Park, CEO, Doosan Bobcat Inc.

By opening a factory in India, Doosan Bobcat has taken the next step in expanding its global presence and growth strategy, he said.

DBIN also plans to make this facility a global manufacturing hub for export and a regional centre of excellence. Besides backhoe loaders, DBIN was also looking at localising its other compact products to suit Indian market requirements and potentially, exporting them as well, the company said in the statement.
