Sicame setting up unit near Chennai

Sicame India Connectors, a subsidiary of France-based Groupe Sicame, a major developer of electrical transmission, overhead and underground distribution and electrical safety materials, is setting up a manufacturing facility at Sirukundram, Kanchipuram district, near here, at a cost of Rs.20 crore to produce connectors and specialised high tech transmission accessories.

The new facility will manufacture accessories, tools, damping and warning light devices for transmission networks. It will also produce accessories and connecting tools for distribution networks, according to Guillaume Valle, Managing Director, Sicame India Connectors.

In an interaction with this correspondent, Mr. Valle said the company in India made a turnover of Rs.20 crore last year. With the new facility in operation, it hoped to achieve revenue of Rs. 50-100 crore in the next five years.

The total market for distribution of accessories in India was nearly Rs.100 crore annually.

The company was dealing with the highly specialised transmission accessories and the estimated turnover from this business would be Rs.20-25 crore.


The plant would have an installed capacity to manufacture three lakh connectors and 15,000 space dampers (transmission accessory) a month. However, he said production would be based on demand.

The total built up area of the plant was nearly 2,500 sq. m. One of the major clients for the distribution projects was the Accelerated Power Development and Reform Programme (APDRP) and for transmission it was the Power Grid Corporation of India
