Panasonic Home Appliances plans to double capacity

Panasonic Home Appliances India plans to double its capacity to produce two million cookers in the next 24 months.

The company is turning out automatic cookers and mixer grinders at its manufacturing facility at Red Hills near Chennai. Addressing presspersons here on Tuesday, Hidenori Aso, Managing Director, said Panasonic was making sizable investments over a period ever since inception as there was increasing demand for the company's premium products. In fact Panasonic was turning out automatic cookers in India, customised to suit the Indian kitchens, rice and water.

Mr. Aso said the company was also exporting 15 per cent of its products to South Africa, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Panama, Maldives, Singapore, Nepal, Bhutan, Middle East, Peru and Nigeria. Thailand and Malaysia too would be covered shortly, he said.

The market for electric cookers and mixer grinders was highly competitive, but Panasonic was commanding 75-80 per cent share.The company was also carrying out a feasibility study for manufacturing food processors, he said.

Mr. Aso also launched a special cooker for Tamil Nadu based on consumer feedback. The company is also starting a customer awareness programme on why someone should prefer Panasonic over the competitor. Towards this end, a dedicated website was unveiled.
