Nuance inks pact with Uniphore Software Systems

Nuance Communications, a Nasdaq-listed firm engaged in providing voice and language solutions, has announced its partnership with Uniphore Software Systems in India to deliverspeech-based mobility solutions for banks and other commercial establishments.

Addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, Sunny Rao, Managing Director, India and South East Asia, Nuance Communications, said the partnership would help expand the use of Nuance speech recognition and voice biometric solutions in banking institutions throughout India. It would serve as a cost-effective and secure way to authenticate customers using their voice as their password. Users can conduct banking and commercial transactions through any mobile phones, including low-cost feature phones, entirely through automated conversation. All transactions occur in real-time, have local language options, and provide customers with account updates using Nuance text-to-speech and outbound text message technologies.

“At Nuance, we believe that the use of voice biometrics in financial service applications provides the most scalable, secure and cost-effective means of protecting and serving the interests of rural consumers in India,” Mr. Rao said.

Nuance solutions currently support 80 languages world over, including 14 different Indian languages. It has more than 50 commercial deployments in India.

In the banking sector, Axis Bank and Syndicate Bank use the Nuance solutions. In three more banks, these are deployed on a pilot basis. Besides, Nuance also caters to the needs of several automobile and telecom companies.

According to Umesh Sachdev, Co-Founder, Uniphore Software Solutions, the Uniphore mobile voice banking application was powered by an advanced voice biometric solution that verified a speaker’s identity based on voice samples acquired during interactions with voice, web or mobile applications.

Mr. Umesh said Uniphore’s mission was to harness the power of voice to transform any ordinary mobile phone into an enterprise-class service delivery platform.The company raised $100,000 in seed funding from IIT-Madras, NRDC and Villgro Innovations Foundation.
