Godrej Appliances on Wednesday launched India's first music-enabled refrigerator, ‘Edge SX MuziPlay' with FM radio and a MP 3 Player. The consumer durables company said it was targeting a 35 per cent growth in sales at Rs.2,700 crore in 2011-12.

The innovative Godrej Edge SX MuziPlay refrigerators with 5-Star energy rating come in two capacities — 183 litre and 221 litre — priced between Rs.12,690 and Rs.15,660.

The refrigerator, which includes a mobile charger with USB port, is equipped with ‘silver ion freshness technology' that fights germs and ensure longer lasting freshness.

“With the launch of India's first music-enabled refrigerator, we have set another milestone in our strong legacy in R&D and are totally committed to pioneering nouvelle technologies to meet the changing needs of the Indian market,” Godrej Appliances Vice-President (Sales & Marketing) Kamal Nandi told journalists here.

Stating that they were working on integrating such entertainment facilities in its other products, like washing machines and ACs, Mr. Nandi said to expand their product portfolio and boost their growth, they were planning to enter new categories like water purifiers and televisions.

“Our biggest growth drivers have been its ACs, washing machine and refrigerator businesses. Though our refrigerator market is expanding and is growing at 18 per cent, the penetration level is still very low in smaller towns and cities. And this is where we see our future growth coming from,” he said.

“We are launching our television sets in a phased manner. It was first introduced in 2008. We have now covered South and West. In the next one or two years, we plan to go pan-India,” Mr. Nandi added. Godrej Appliances also plans to expand its retail presence by opening around 15-20 exclusive outlets across the country.
