Indian Bank opens training institute in Dharmapuri

Indian Bank has opened its seventh Self Employment Training Institute (INDSETI) in the State, at the Collectorate complex here on Monday.

Collector R. Lilly inaugurated the institute in the presence of B. Raj Kumar, executive director, Indian Bank, M. Vijay Kumar, lead district officer, Reserve Bank of India and M. Karthikeyan, zonal manager and circle head, Indian Bank, at a building owned by the Khadi and Village Industries Board.

In her inaugural address, Ms. Lilly called upon the bank authorities to extending support to over 60 transgenders living in the district to lead a respectful life by way of providing them training in entrepreneurial skills.

She also explained how she got permission from the KVIC Board to utilise the building that remained unused for a long time inside the Collectorate complex. She urged the bank management to chalk out a self employment training programme that would fulfil the local needs of people.

In his special address, Mr. Raj Kumar told the women candidates to make use of the programme fully for their overall development.

Mr. Karthikeyan lauded the cooperation of the district administration in inaugurating the institute in a short period of time.

B. Vadivelu, director, INDSETI, said that the institute was offering a 21-day Fashion Designing course to the women candidates free of cost. The institute was also offering free, unique and intensive short-term residential self employment training programmes to youth between the age group of 18 and 35. The duration of training programmes in various avenues such as agriculture and allied industries, tertiary sectors varied from one to six weeks.

INDSETI was established under the tripartite arrangement between the Ministry of Rural Development, State Government and Commercial Banks. The bank has proposed to establish six more INDSETIs in Tamil Nadu before the end of 2012.
