MTNL keen to acquire stake in Zambian telco

State-owned Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL) today said it is interested in acquiring a stake in Zambia’s leading telecom firm - Zamtel and has signed a non-disclosure pact with the company.

“We expressed interest for Zamtel. We have signed a non-disclosure agreement with the company,” MTNL Chairman R S P Sinha told reporters.

The government of Zambia had announced its intention to partially privatise the state-owned Zambia Telecommunications Company Ltd (Zamtel).

According to sources, the proposal was to sell up to 75 per cent equity of Zamtel.
