The Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) of the Ministry of Environment and Forest (MoEF) has given environment clearance for the expansion of Jindal Power's thermal power plant at Raigarh district in Chhattisgarh. Under the project, Jindal Power, a subsidiary of Jindal Steel & Power Limited (JSPL), will add 2,400 MW (four 600 MW coal-based units). The company will invest Rs.13,410 crore, of which over Rs.10,000 crore debt had already been tied up. The proposed plant is an expansion of the 1,000 MW plant already functional at Tamnar (Raigarh district). The company is targeting to commission two units of 600 MW each out of the proposed 2,400 MW before March 2012.
