Honda Motorcycle aims at 18 % growth

Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI), has set itself a growth target of 18 per cent this year.

Addressing presspersons here on Thursday, Group Vice President, T. Kawatsu, said the company was planning to sell over 15 lakh units in 2010-11, 18 per cent more than last year sale of 12.7 lakh units. . HMSI was also enjoying a 13 per cent share in the two-wheeler market.

The company launched CB Unicorn Dazzler, the150-cc bike, here on Thursday. CB Unicorn is priced at Rs. 61,185 (ex-showroom Chennai) and CB Unicorn Dazzler at Rs. 65,890.

On the product features, Deputy Manager (South Region), Shreenath M Kamlapurker, claimed that the CB Unicorn Dazzler would deliver a mileage of 60 km a litre. It was an ideal bike for young people who aspired for aggressive style and performance, he added. The company was planning to sell 1.20 lakh units of CB Unicorn and CB Unizorn Dazzler in the first year. He said the 150-cc segment was growing rapidly and the growth momentum would continue in the coming years. The south contributed about 30 per cent of the overall sales of HMSI and had grown 20 per cent as compared to last year. In the scooter segment, sales of Activa, the basic model, were growing fast.

Mr. Kawatsu said the company recently laid the foundation for its second plant near Bhiwadi in Rajasthan. The new plant was scheduled to become operational in the second half of 2011 with an annual production capacity of six lakh units.
