Commonwealth Bank of Australia to open India branch

Australia’s leading financial institution Commonwealth Bank would open its first branch in India in Mumbai in the second quarter of 2010, an official of the bank said.

The head of the commercial banking division of the Commonwealth Bank, Pravin Batra, told PTI that the RBI had given the approval for opening the branch which would focus on financing trade among India, Australia and New Zealand.

The bank had a representative office in Bangalore earlier.
