Designed to make travel insurance buying easy, transparent and paperless, the online purchase facility is expected to be a cost-effective and less time-consuming process for customers.
According to S.S.Gopalarathnam, Managing Director, the growth in outbound traffic from the country (estimated at 20 per cent annually) and the global move towards selling airline tickets online have presented the travel insurance industry a huge opportunity to tap the `click route’ to grow the business.
He was confident of Chola MS selling 10 per cent of its travel insurance policies online in the current financial year. At around Rs.15 crore, the share of Chola MS in the Rs.300-crore travel insurance business was miniscule. The online sale of travel insurance by the industry itself at present was very insignificant, he said.
Chola MS, it may be recalled, had already been offering private car owners the facility to buy motor insurance online. He said soon the company would extend its online presence to cover other products such as health, home and personal accident.
