Bosch on Monday said it would invest Rs.2,000 crore in its operations in India in the next three years. The German auto component manufacturer also announced that it had developed a special diesel engine in partnership with Tata Motors for Nano.
Addressing a press conference here, Bosch Managing Director V. K. Viswanathan said that nearly a quarter (Rs.500 crore) of these investments would go into strengthening the company’s research and development activities in India and the balance for expanding production capacities. Chairman of the Automotive Group of Robert Bosch Bernd Bohr said “with strong growth which India is witnessing in recent years, we expect the contribution from sales in the country to grow up to 5 per cent in the next three years.” Bosch’s revenues in India were at Rs.6,400 crore in 2008, while sales in 2009 are expected to be around Rs.6,800 crore.
Mr. Bohr also disclosed that Bosch in partnership with Tata Motors had developed 1.1-CRS (common-rail system) for the Nano’s diesel version. The engine would be produced locally.
Tata Motors has announced plans to launch diesel version of Nano.
