Bonfiglioli Transmissions to expand

Bonfiglioli Transmissions, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Bonfiglioli Riduttori of Italy, engaged in the manufacture of gear boxes and gear motors for industries such as steel, cement, construction and renewable energy line windmill is planning to expand its capacity to two lakh numbers annually by putting up new generation machines at its existing plant. The expansion will involve an outlay of Rs. 40 crore.

Addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, Sonia Bonfiglioli, CEO of the Italian firm, said the group had so far invested Rs. 400 crore in Indian operations and the new generation machines would help in producing gear boxes of high accuracy. The expanded capacity will be operational in six months, Ms. Sonia said. The company’s plant is located at SIDCO Industrial Estate, in Thirumudivakkam, near Chennai and has a capacity of 1.40 lakh gear boxes and gear motors.

It has also a global sourcing facility for its parent company for raw materials such as castings, forgings and machined components.

Ms. Sonia said the group was working with a European company for developing electric systems for cars.

According to M. Ganesh CEO of Indian operations, the indigenous content of the products turned out in India was 70 per cent. Almost all windmill manufacturers were procuring the yaw and pitch drives for wind turbines turned out by the company.
