Bus aggregator Shuttl expanded its operations by entering Chennai city on Thursday.

It is the sixth city that Shuttl is offering its services with the aim of easing pollution and congestion by inducing modal shift.

Shuttl is a unique seat-based bus transit model, which enables citizens in the city to reserve a seat using its app and travel hassle-free to office every day, said the company in a statement.

Currently, the company operates around 100 buses making 2,000 rides per day on 20 key routes in Chennai. It aims to double this within a year.

“Shuttl not only offers a quality, stress-free ride to commuters at affordable rate, but also creates a positive impact on environment and road congestion,” said Amit Singh, co-founder and CEO, Shuttl.

Co-founded by two IITians — Amit Singh and Deepanshu Malviyia — it offers 90,000 rides daily by operating more than 1,700 buses in Delhi-NCR, Kolkata, Pune, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Chennai. It is supported by marquee investors such as Sequoia Capital, Lightspeed Ventures, Amazon and Dentsu.
