Bajaj Auto is set to roll out three variants of its cruiser bike Avenger soon as the two wheeler maker seeks to capitalise on the growing demand in the leisure bike segment.

The company is set to unveil the new variants of Avenger on October 27. The three variants are expected to be – 220 Cruise, 220 Street as also the entry level cruiser Avenger 150.

With the launch of three new variants, it expects the volumes of the Avenger to increase from the current level of about 3,500 units a month to about 12,000 per month by end of present fiscal, the company management told the investor conference call.

Mean while, its recent launches such as CT100 and new range of Pulsars have helped the company improve sales in the sluggish motorcycle market.

Its bikes Discover and Pulsar were among the top 10 motorcycles in September 2014. However, in September 2015, only Pulsar featured among the top 10 selling bikes in the month.

During the first half of current fiscal, the Pune-headquartered two wheeler maker’s market share improved 100 basis points to 18 per cent in the motorcycle market, which reported four per cent decline during the period.

It presently occupies the second position in the Indian bike market. Hero continues to be the leader with about 52 per cent share.

Aided by new launches, Bajaj Auto is hopeful of regaining the market share it lost owing to poor sales of Discover, in the next couple of years.

Mean while, the management has indicated that inventory levels in the domestic two wheeler market have remained steady vis-à-vis competition and dealer inventory level is about 30 days.

But, newly Pulsar variants AS/RS are in short supply, particularly the RS 220 is being dispatched to only 60 per cent of the dealerships owing to production constraints, according to a report of Emkay Global Financial Services Ltd.
