Union Minister Arun Jaitley is “ready to take over” at the Finance Ministry again, according to a senior official, who added that he was waiting for Parliament session to conclude before rejoining.

“Mr. Jaitley is ready to take over at the Finance Ministry,” the Ministry official told The Hindu. “He was just waiting for the Parliament session to finish. He is likely to take charge soon after. It could even be on February 14 itself.”

The Budget session of Parliament ended on Wednesday.

The government had, on January 23, announced that Piyush Goyal would take over as Finance Minister during Mr. Jaitley’s “period of indisposition”, alluding to the fact that he had travelled to the U.S. for treatment. Mr. Jaitley, on February 9, tweeted that he was “delighted to be back home.”

This is the second time Mr. Goyal had taken over as Finance Minister following Mr. Jaitley’s health issues with the first being last year while Mr. Jaitley was recuperating after a renal transplant surgery.
