Asia MotorWorks (AMW), manufacturers of commercial vehicles and components, is entering a new segment of the tipper market, with the launch of 16-tonne capacity tippers. It also plans to launch several new application-specific models aimed at growing its volumes and market share in the tipper segment.

Addressing presspersons in Mumbai on Thursday, Anirudh Bhuwalka, Managing Director and CEO, said the mining and construction segments would remain the focus areas and AMW tippers and other fully built vehicles had quickly gained acceptance in the most difficult and arduous mining conditions. Rolling out the first truck at its 523-acre plant in Bhuj (Gujarat) in 2008, AMW had increased its presence in an increasingly competitive market place in a short span of time through its products and service network, Mr. Bhuwalka said. The company had already emerged as the number two player with a market share of 25 per cent in the 25-tonne and above tipper segment, he said. Its overall market share in the heavy commercial vehicle segment was 5 per cent in April-September of the current financial year. According to A. Ramasubramanian, President, with the launch of 16-tonne tippers AMW would access the entire heavy commercial vehicle market in India. He said 16-tonne tippers would be displayed along with other products at the Excon exhibition on the construction segment to be held from November 23 in Bangalore. The company had entered into collaborative partnerships with world-renowned engineering aggregate suppliers such as Cummins, ZF, Eaton and Meritor. The total addressable market for heavy commercial vehicles was 2.20 lakh per annum growing at 9 per cent at present, he said. Thanks to its increasing presence in the construction and mining segments, the company was poised to grow strongly, he said.

Recently, AMW had introduced 31-tonne 12-wheel tipper and the initial response was highly encouraging as the payload was one of the highest in its segment, Mr. Ramasubramanian said.

The company has an integrated manufacturing facility at Bhuj, Gujarat. Journalists were taken around this 523-acre complex which has state-of-the-art plants, assembly lines, specially designed frame shop and weld shop, completely automated paint shop and in-house R&D facilities. The location has proximity to the ports of Mundra and Kandla.

The product portfolio includes 49-tonne, 40-tonne vehicles, 25-tonne rock and box body tipper, 25-tonne tipper and transit mixer and haulage vehicles.
