Start-ups that mine hidden insights from a large amount of data using artificial intelligence, provide a platform for designing composite structures and automate quality control in manufacturing using machine vision were some of the innovative ventures showcased at Bengaluru by Airbus BizLab.

The firms were part of season two programme started in January by Airbus BizLab, a global aerospace accelerator of aircraft-maker Airbus. The companies were selected to work with different Airbus teams in India and across the world over the last six months.

“It is reassuring to see the potential and quality of entrepreneurs in the Indian start-up ecosystem,” said Bruno Gutierres, head of Airbus BizLab, in a statement. “We are hoping to create more opportunities for start-ups to work in the aerospace and defence sectors.”

The accelerator said all the five selected start-ups — Neewee, Stelae Technologies, Eflight, SYmbosim and Qualitas Technologies — have either started working with Airbus or are associated with the aerospace sector. Airbus generated revenues of €67 billion last year.

‘Innovative strategy’

Bizlab said that it is a part of Airbus’ innovative strategy to bring together start-ups and Airbus ‘intrapreneurs’ to work and speed up the transformation of their innovative ideas into valuable businesses. Through its six-month ‘acceleration programme’ for early stage projects, Airbus Bizlab gives access to a large number of coaches and experts in various domains, said the accelerator.
