Mercedes-Benz rolls out petrol GLE luxury SUV

Mercedes-Benz India has introduced a petrol variant of GLE, its highest selling luxury SUV in India at a price of Rs 74.90 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) . This is the first time when the GLE will be available in a petrol variant in India.

“GLE 400 4MATIC has been introduced with a powerful V6 petrol engine, in order to provide patrons with an option between a diesel and petrol version,” the company said.

The SUV segment has been the fastest growing for the company over the past two years, it said.

The 7th product from its portfolio, the GLE 400 4MATIC will be initially available as a Completely Built Unit (CBU), and the local production will follow later in the year, the company said.

Mercedes-Benz plans to complete the petrol product portfolio by September, 2016. The GLE SUV now has now 4 variants in India namely GLE 250d, GLE 350d, GLE 400 and the AMG GLE 450 Coupe.

The petrol versions are being rolled out the counter the effect of bans on the sale of high powered diesel vehicles in some parts of India.

“For the first time, we are introducing the GLE with a petrol mill and this underscores our strategy of offering the right product for our growing customer base. This is the fourth SUV we have introduced this year,” Roland Folger, Managing Director and CEO, Mercedes-Benz India said.
