The Centre on Wednesday again expressed its concern over the imposition of import duties by the U.S. on aluminium and steel, and said that its appeal in the WTO Appellate Disputes Settlement Committee will be heard on July 19 and 20, Minister of State for Commerce and Industry C.R. Chaudhary informed the Rajya Sabha.

“After studying the issue, India filed a dispute resolution application before the... Committee on June 20, in which we have raised the question of how these tariffs have been imposed on us,” he said in answer to a supplementary question.

“Even China, Japan, and several other countries have done the same. We also did it, the hearing [for] which will take place tomorrow and day after tomorrow (July 19 and 20)”

U.S. President Donald Trump in March this year signed into effect import tariffs of 25% on steel and 10% on aluminium, which sparked off a trade war involving the U.S., EU, China, and India.
