After wowing Hollywood through its newly-launched ‘Cinema EOS C300' camera, Canon is all set to capture the imagination of the Indian entertainment and television industry, particularly Bollywood. This also marks Canon's entry into the motion picture industry and the Japanese firm gives the flexibility of using almost all its lenses, including five speciality lenses created for this particular camera.
“We have got tremendous response from leading directors in the U.S. and Europe…and now we are looking forward to India where the product will be available in the next few months. We are targeting Bollywood and regional language cinema industry, while booming television industry will also love our Cinema EOS (electro-optical system) camera,” said Canon Inc. Group Executive (Image Communication Products Operations) Hiroo Edakubo.
Canon is planning to rope in premier institutions such as Pune-based Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), movie and TV production houses, besides leading cinematographers to market the ‘C300' that is equipped with ‘Super 35mm Canon CMOS' sensor and ‘ DIGIC DV III' image processor for excellent results.
Without disclosing the number of Cinema EOS C300 cameras that Canon has sold in the U.S. and Europe so far, Mr. Edakubo said the response had been so positive that they had to increase its production.
When asked about its price, he said in the U.S., it was being sold for $16,000. “In India it will be competitively priced to help young cinematographers and professionals realise their dreams,” he added.
