Mahindra & Mahindra on Wednesday said production at its engine making plant at Igatpuri in Maharashtra has been stopped due to strike by the workers.
“There has been a stoppage of work at the company’s Igatpuri plant due to a tool-down strike by the union,” the company said. This is post the suspension of two workmen on disciplinary grounds, one of them being a union office bearer, it added.
“The company is in constant dialogue with the union for an early solution. The company has currently sufficient stock of engines for vehicle production,” it said.
This is the second instance of labour unrest in the company in 2013. The Nashik plant, which makes Xylo, Verito among other models, also suffered a total shut-down for a few days in March.Sources said workers were also negotiating wage hike with the management, and had held 11 meetings recently.
