Thorn Lighting plans to double market share


Having bagged over a dozen projects for indoor and outdoor luminaries, Thorn Lighting India is planning to double its market share during the current year and turnover by next fiscal.

Since January, Thorn Lighting has bagged orders worth Rs.25 crore from Chennai Metro Rail for 11 elevated stations and depot, Jaipur Metro Rail, New Delhi Metro Rail, ONGC, Lankan Electricity Company and Renault Nissan, among others. Most of the projects have been completed.

Thorn Lighting, a subsidiary of the Austrian Company Zumtobel group, has been in India for the past 18 years, and had executed several projects. The turnover from Middle East, Central Asia and Turkey last year was 54 million euros (Rs.432 crore).

New areas

Talking to The Hindu, the newly-appointed Managing Director Bala Subramanian said: “We have demonstrated our strength by providing application-based customised energy saving solutions to automobile and IT firms to reduce their carbon footprints. Now, we are making a foray into newer areas such as ports, logistics and tunnels.”

According to Mr. Subramanian, Thorn has partnered with several firms, including Hitro Energy Solutions, to increase its market share in India. During the current year, Thorn would invest in marketing, R&D and people to grow its market share to 20 per cent and also set up offices in Tier-II cities.
