The flip side of ‘Big Billion Day’

It was touted as a ‘Big Billion Day’ by Flipkart. At the end of the day, however, it proved a nightmare for many an angry customer.

A combination of ad blitz, deep discounts, limited sale of products and one-day time limit for the offer resulted in a mad rush into the Flipkart site. Not surprisingly, the website crashed within minutes of the sale kicking off at 8 a.m. The lucky ones who managed to get to the site found the products offered had run out of stock. Complaints followed.

Many took to social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook to give vent to their disappointment. Is it a PR disaster? Flipkart doesn’t feel so. Founders Sachin Bansal and Binny Bansal are delighted by the “overwhelming response.” They flash the numbers. A billion hits and $100-million sales in just 10 hours.
