SpiceJet Q2 net loss widens

The net loss of SpiceJet widened to Rs.559.49 crore in the second quarter ended September 30, 2013, from Rs.163.52 crore in the same period last year.

The company’s revenue from operations increased by 6 per cent to Rs.1,246 crore from Rs.1,172 crore.

“SpiceJet continued to grow passenger traffic by 9 per cent and revenues by 6 per cent during the quarter. However, the civil aviation sector in India continues to struggle under the burden of several adversities mainly the Indian rupee that saw unprecedented weakness during the quarter,” SpiceJet said on the reasons for reporting loss. “The approximate impact of currency depreciation alone, despite a hedging programme was around Rs.42 crore,” the company said.
