Samsung Electronics unveiled its new range of smart ‘feature phones’ under the Samsung Rex series here on Thursday.
The price ranges of the four new Samsung Rex handsets are from Rs. 4,280 to Rs. 6,490.
The new line looks to take on Nokia’s highly popular Asha series, which is priced similarly, in the range of Rs. 3,500 to Rs. 8,500.
“We’ve chosen India for our launch because India is in so many ways at the centre of economic and technology trends that are reshaping our world,” said Younghee Lee, Executive Vice-President, Global Marketing, Mobile Communications Business, Samsung Electronics.
This series will be available across India from February, and is targeted at the youth and first-time job holders.
These devices will be launched next in other growing markets such as China and South America.
“This new series of phones has been developed in India, for Indian consumers. We look at this series as a way to broaden our appeal.
These are targeted at young consumers,” said Asim Warsi, Samsung Mobile Vice-President.
All four phones support EGDE for 2G data, and are entirely touch-screen devices.
The handsets work on Java platforms, allowing users to sync their mail and have the option of push mail as well.
The Rex series supports the TouchWiz user interface and access to the Samsung app store. None of these phones support 3G connectivity.
