SAIL registers 10 per cent growth in sales during November

Reaping the benefits of the thrust on marketing, state-run Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) on Thursday announced it had achieved total sales of 9.7 lakh tonnes in November 2013, a growth of 10 per cent over same month last year.

The company accelerated its export sales, with shipments to the tune of 61,000 tonnes during November 2013, representing a three-fold growth over last year. Cumulative exports of 3.2 lakh tonnes in April-November 2013 were up 72 per cent on year-on-year basis.

Keeping pace with its modernisation and expansion plan, SAIL chairman, C.S. Verma said production from the rebuilt coke oven battery unit two has commenced in Durgapur Steel Plant (DSP). Rebuilt at a cost of Rs. 213 crores, this battery will play a vital role in the modernisation and expansion plan of Durgapur Steel Plant aimed to augment the capacity of saleable steel from the present level of 1.60 MT to 2.12 MT.
