Ranbaxy promoters’ feud intensifies

Malvinder accuses Shivinder of assault

The feud between Singh brothers, the former promoters of Ranbaxy, has intensified with both sides levelling allegations against each other.

Soon after a video of Malvinder Singh went viral on social media wherein he accused younger brother Shivinder of assaulting him, causing bruises on his arm and chest, Mr. Shivinder issued a statement denying the allegations.

“I have received several queries regarding a video in which Malvinder has accused me of hitting him. This is false and a shameless attempt to cast doubt on my integrity. I would like to address this clearly,” Mr. Shivinder said in a statement.

He said on December 52018, he visited office for a scheduled EGM. “On arriving, I was concerned to find out that one of the directors had left the ongoing board meeting due to unnecessary intimidating tactics being adopted by the (only) other board member, Mr. Malvinder’s relative. Following the incident, it appeared that Mr. Malvinder was trying to coerce some employees to video record statements under duress. Concerned for the well-being of the employees, I entered the room to understand what was going on,” he said.

“Angered at seeing me there, [Mr.] Malvinder attempted to forcibly restrain me and pinned me to the wall choking me. I tried to push him away in self-defence,” Mr. Shivinder said.

“Shocked, I went and made a police complaint as I prefer to resort to legal remedies to issues. If I was the aggressor, I wonder why he did not make a police complaint instead of public gimmickry and that too one day later, displaying a fake cast for an injury he never had,” he said.

He said on intervention of the family and believing that the brothers could keep issues private, he once again agreed to withdraw his complaint.

“It has been clear to me for some time that Mr. Malvinder and I cannot work together. The gulf between our value systems is clearly too wide. This latest incident closes all options for any possible solution to work together,” Mr. Shivinder said.

“I apologise for these distractions to our employees and creditors and remain focused on trying to find pragmatic solutions to address the group’s issues, which are far larger than the two of us as individuals and need urgent resolution,” Mr. Shivinder added.
