Prasad to meet Google’s Pichai, Premji next week

The minister is likely to meet Mr. Pichai and Mr. Saito on December 16 and Mr. Murthy and Mr. Premji on December 18.

Communications and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad will hold meetings next week with Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Japanese technology company Hitachi’s Executive Officer Yutaka Saito, Infosys co-founder Narayana Murthy and Wipro Chairman Azim Premji.

The minister is likely to meet Mr. Pichai and Mr. Saito on December 16 and Mr. Murthy and Mr. Premji on December 18, according to sources.

“Discussions with Google will be mainly around the company’s plans for Digital India initiative and the way forward,” the source said.

Mr. Pichai is also expected to hold discussions with the minister about Google’s Project Loon to push the government’s flagship Digital India initiative. Project-Loon proposes providing Internet access across India through a network of helium-filled balloons.

The head of Google is also likely to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
