Philips Lighting, soon to be renamed Signify Innovations, will stop producing compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs.
“We will be the last man standing in production of incandescent bulbs,” said Sumit Padmakar Joshi, vice-chairman and managing director. Mr. Joshi also said that Philips Lighting would be renamed as ‘Signify Innovation India’ from end January.
“Incandescent bulbs are still being sold for ₹10. We will produce them as long as there is a need for these,” he added. Pointing out that the demand for CFL bulbs was miniscule in the country, he said that CFL would be phased out soon, while incandescent bulbs would be produced by Philips for another three to five years. The CFL production line has already been deployed to make alternative bulbs.
