Onida unveils smart phone-controlled ACs

January 28, 2015 11:31 pm | Updated 11:31 pm IST - CHENNAI:

MIRC Electronics Ltd., makers of Onida brand of electronic products, hopes to register 30-35 per cent growth in its air conditioner (AC) sales in 2015, aided by favourable growth outlook and new product range.

It has unveiled a new range of ACs, based on IoT (Internet of Things)-technology, that can be controlled from smart phones via Wifi. These are priced five per cent higher than its normal ACs. Onida has logged on to this concept due to growing importance for internet-enabled smart phones that influence consumer behaviour, particularly the youth. “If we have to target the youth, we have to get everything on their hand. With upcoming projects like smart cities, these ACs will be relevant to customers” said Gulu Mirchandani, Chairman & Managing Director.

Onida will phase-out CRT televisions and DVD products, while it is re-booting its mobile phone strategy to launch sub-Rs.10,000 smartphones soon.
