Leading hospitality chain The Oberoi Group today said it is not averse to run a second hotel in the city through management contract route if it is approached by any developer.
“We are not averse to operate a second hotel in Kolkata if there is any opportunity,” EIH Limited executive chairman P.R.S. Oberoi said.
The group had opened its first hotel in the country in the city, Oberoi Grand, which has attained an iconic status and is considered as a major landmark in the metropolis.
Mr. Oberoi said almost 80 per cent of the hotels operated by the group were its own properties.
“But the recent trend across the world is to operate hotels through management contract. So we are going to adopt that model fully,” he told reporters after the company’s annual general meeting on Wednesday. The Director Nita M. Ambani was also present at the event.
The company has entered into a management contract for five projects abroad and one in the country. It would, however, own and operate two new hotels, one each in Goa and Bengaluru.
Regarding operating the proposed Reliance property in Navi Mumbai, Mr. Oberoi said it is awaiting environmental clearance.
On Oberoi Grand, he said that the hotel has an occupancy rate of 70 per cent, at par with other major metros, adding that The Oberoi flight kitchen in Kolkata would start shortly.
