NTPC exceeds capex target

During 2014-15, the company added capacity to the extent of 1,290 MW. With this, capacity added in the first three years of XII Plan had reached 7,295 MW against the target of 11,920 MW.

NTPC, the largest power utility in the country, exceeded its capex (capital expenditure) target of Rs. 22,400 crore and recorded Rs.23,239 crore for the year ended March 31, 2015.

“Achieving such a huge capex targets is, in itself, a herculean task; exceeding these huge targets for two successive financial years has been an extraordinary achievement of the company. The capex of the company has doubled in the past five years. This should further strengthen shareholders confidence in the ability of team NTPC to achieve its ambitious targets, said Mr.Arup Roy Choudhury, Chairman and Managing Director, NTPC, in a letter to shareholders in the annual report 2014-15.

Installed capacity

He said the company’s total capacity had crossed the 45,000 MW-mark and stood at 45,048 MW as on July 2015. Sustained efforts by the company during the last five years had resulted in creation of 13,255 MW new capacity, which is nearly 30 per cent of total capacity added in nearly four decades of the history of the company.

Marching towards its long term capacity addition target of 128 GW, the company had over 23,000 MW capacity under construction and nearly 11,400 MW capacity was under bidding.

Besides, feasibility reports for about 16,600 MW had been approved, the CMD stated in his letter.

During 2014-15, the company added capacity to the extent of 1,290 MW. With this, capacity added in the first three years of XII Plan had reached 7,295 MW against the target of 11,920 MW.

The total installed capacity of the NTPC Group as March 31, 2015, stood at 44,398 MW, which included 6,196 MW by joint ventures and subsidiaries.

With the commissioning of two units of 200 MW each of Koldam Hydro Project on April 10 and June 22, respectively and 250 MW unit of Bongaigoan thermal power project on June 22, this year, the total installed capacity of NTPC Group has reached 45,048 MW as on July 30, 2015.

The CMD said by adding 7,295 MW, the company had made the single largest contribution to the total thermal capacity addition during the first three fiscals of XII Plan period. The accelerated pace of the company’s capacity addition should infuse in shareholders greater confidence towards the strength of the company to remain the market leader in the future.
