Hike, India’s home grown messaging application, on Thursday said it has acquired Zip Phone, a US-based voice calling application, for an undisclosed sum. This is Hike's first acquisition and will help the company expand product range in the Internet-based communication space.
Zip Phone, a one-man startup founded by Anuj Jain in the US, was also part of the Y Combinator list Summer Batch (2014).
“From day one we’ve strongly believed that through communication we can bring India online. Zip Phone’s technology will allow us to bring free voice calling to the market much faster,” Kavin Bharti Mittal, Founder and CEO, hike messenger, said.
He added voice calling was one of the top requested features by the users.
Launched in December 2012, Hike has over 35 million users and has raised USD 86 million from Tiger Global and BSB till date.
