Education start-up FitKids has acquired ThinkLABS, a science and technology education provider for an undisclosed amount.
FitKids, based in Bengaluru, provides sports as well as science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education for children from Kindergarten to grade 12. The firm said the acquisition will help it add about 100 schools to its existing portfolio of 160 schools across the country.
FitKids founder Dev Roy said there was a lack of impetus given to STEM education and hands-on learning in India. “And this fundamental gap in the education system is what we are trying to bridge,” he said. FitKids, which provides STEM education under the brand DiscoverEd, said it will now be able to offer a programme called Eureka formed by ThinkLABS which gives training to teachers to deliver the curriculum. The firm said Eureka will enable it to cater to Tier II and Tier III markets where the model of DiscoverEd is not economically scalable.
