Phone subscriber base crosses 50-crore mark

The telecom sector has crossed a milestone with the total subscriber base crossing the 50-crore mark. The total number of phone subscribers stood at 50.9 crore by September end. It was 49.4 crore in August.

According to the latest figures given by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, the tele-density has reached 43.50 per cent, with wireless tele-density being 40.31 per cent. The country saw a spurt in tele-density in the last few years, thanks to massive addition of mobile subscribers.
