Indian handicrafts to take part in Hong Kong fair

April 15, 2011 12:25 am | Updated 12:25 am IST - NEW DELHI:

Seeking to promote its products to a wide range of customers and fight the growing competition worldwide, the Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts will display 125 varieties of products in the three trade fairs to be held in Hong Kong from April 20.

The handicraft exporters from India would participate in three fairs — Hong Kong Houseware Fair, Hong Kong International Home Textiles Fair and Hong Kong Gifts and Premium Fair.

The main component of the marketing strategy is participation through specialised trade shows held worldwide.

“With Hong Kong emerging as one of the important nations, we have decided to pay special attention to this growing region,'' EPCH Chairman Raj Kumar Malhotra said in a statement.

In the Hong Kong Houseware Fair, about 58 Indian companies would take part and display items like furniture, hardware, home decoration, kitchenware and painting. While in the Hong Kong International Home Textiles Fair, which would showcase home decoratives, around 26 Indian companies would participate.

In the Hong Kong Gifts and Premium Fair 44 companies would take part showcasing products, including carpets, gifts, stationery items and wood products.

Mr. Malhotra said so far Germany had been an important place for marketing through trade fairs. Specialised trade fairs held in Hong Kong are now visited by buyers from almost all the major countries of the world and Indian exports are looking to tap this market. Besides, the US and Europe are the major destination of India's handicraft exports.
