The annual inflation rate based on the Wholesale Price Index rose to a four-month high of 3.18% in April from 2.47% a month ago, the Commerce Ministry said on Monday.

The inflation rate was 3.85% in April last year.

The pick up in inflation rate in March was on account of across-the-board increase in prices.

The overall index rose 0.7% on month in April to 116.8.

The more widely-tracked Consumer price index-based inflation rate for April will be released later in the day.
