Economist Rajiv Kumar on Monday took over as Secretary General of Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) filling the void created by the resignation of Amit Mitra who has since taken over as Finance Minister of West Bengal.

Mr. Kumar has been serving as Director General of FICCI and earlier he had functioned as Director and Chief Executive of Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER).

FICCI President Harsh Mariwala made the formal announcement on Monday.

Referring to the issue of farmers' protest and land acquisition, Mr. Kumar favoured the Haryana model and land acquisition should be left to market forces.
