The Income Tax Department said it had extended the deadline for the filing of returns from September 30 to October 15 for companies that require their returns to be audited.

“The due date for filing of income tax returns and audit reports for assessment year 2018-19 is September 30, 2018 for certain categories of taxpayers,” the Central Board of Direct Taxes said in a statement.

“Upon consideration of representations from various stakeholders,The CBDT extends the ‘due date’ for filing of income tax returns as well as reports of audit [which were required to be filed by the said specified date] from September 30, 2018 to October 15, 2018 in respect of the said categories of taxpayers,” it said.

The September 30 deadline pertained to companies filing their returns for assessment year 2018-19 (financial year 2017-18) and which required their returns to be audited before filing.
