Govt appoints 2 members to CBDT after five months of positions lying vacant

Almost after five months of vacancies in the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), the government on Monday appointed two members, Aditya Vikram, IRS (IT) 1981 batch & Pramod Chandra Mody, IRS (IT) 1982 batch, as members in the apex body.

As per the notification issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Mr. Vikram has been appointed to fill in a vacancy that arose on February 1, 2018, while Mr. Mody’s appointment made to fill in a vacancy occurred on March 1, 2018.

Their names were cleared by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and subsequently the DoPT issued their appointment notification.

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), the apex policy-making body for income tax, saw three of its members superannuating between January and June this year.

After two appointments on Monday, there is still one vacancy on the board while the remaining three members are scheduled to retire in September.

The present Chairman Sushil Chandra, after getting a second extension, will be in office until May 31, 2019.
