Garg is new economic affairs secy

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet on Wednesday approved the appointment of Subhash Garg, currently Executive Director of the World Bank, as Economic Affairs Secretary in the Ministry of Finance.

The post of Department of Economic Affairs Secretary was previously held by Tapan Ray, who was given the additional charge along with his existing post of Corporate Affairs Secretary in May, following the retirement of Shaktikanta Das.

Mr. Garg, a member of the 1983 batch of the Indian Administrative Service from the Rajasthan cadre, took over as Executive Director at the World Bank for Bangladesh, Bhutan, India and Sri Lanka on November 1, 2014. He was previously Director in the DEA, and Joint Secretary in the Department of Expenditure.
