The Department of Posts (DoP) has extended the facility of selling internationally certified gold coins to its 500 post offices spread across India to boost its sales in the current festive season, besides expanding the network of post offices for facilitating foreign exchange services.
“Last week 150 more post offices added to take the number of our post offices selling gold coins to 500. Our month-long promotion campaign is already on where we are offering 0.5 gram gold coin free to customer buying 10 gram gold coin, while those in government services, including retired government servants, are getting a discount of six per cent on the purchase,” said DoP’s General Manager John Samuel.
It was in October last year that India Post started selling gold coins in association with World Gold Council and Reliance Money. The high quality 24 carat gold coins with certification from Valcambi (Switzerland) come in attractive packs of 0.5 gm, 1 gm, 5 gm and 8 gm and are priced between Rs.14,694 and Rs.9,184.
Referring to their foreign exchange services, Suneeta Trivedi, Chief General Manager (Business Development and Marketing Directorate), said 24 more post offices would start the service from Thursday in addition to the existing network of 112 post offices across the country, while the services would soon be extended to 1,000 post offices.
