Maharashtra Government signs 12 MoUs

The Maharashtra Government on Monday signed 12 memoranda of understandings (MoUs) with companies to set up projects in Maharashtra worth Rs. 3,822.86 crore over the next few years. When completed, these projects will generate a total of 4,270 jobs.

ACC, the cement major is setting up a mega cement project with a capacity of 3 million tonnes per annum at Ghughus in the Chandrapur district of Maharashtra at a cost of around Rs. 1,500 crore. The project is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2010. Sumit Banerjee, Managing Director, ACC, said, “This will be an environment-friendly plant and ACC has invested considerable resources to ensure highest standards in environment management. We are also setting up a new captive power plant of 25 MW capacity.”

Asian Paints will set up a mega project to make paints and intermediates at Kesurdi area in Satara district. An amount of Rs. 735 crore would be spent on the project over five years and the ultimate capacity would be four lakh tonnes per annum. The first phase of production will start from 2012-13.

The other projects include Shri Virangana Steel, which is setting up a steel melting shop, a rolling mill and a captive power plant in Nagpur with an investment of Rs. 575 crore, Polygenta Technologies, which is setting up a Rs. 270-crore project to make partially-oriented yarn (POY) in Dindori, Nashik.

Chinteshwar Steel is putting up an induction furnace, re-rolling unit and a ferro-mangenese steel plant at an investment of Rs. 157 crore at Nagpur. Bedhmutha Wire Company is setting up a Rs. 152.90-crore project in Dhule district to make galvanised steel and products.

While Shree Vaishnav Casting is setting up a Rs. 110-crore project in Nashik to make MS Billets, beam channels TMT bars and transmission towers, Meta Rails & Commodities is setting up a Rs. 87-crore project in Chandrapur district to produce sponge iron, MS billets and TMT bars. Rasoya Proteins will invest Rs. 72.11 crore in a solvent extraction and oil refinery project in Buldhana district and Abhay Cotex Rs. 23.35-crore in a solvent extraction plant in Jalna. Chedda Electricals & Electronics is setting up a Rs. 59-crore project in Pune to manufacture electrical systems and engineering products for two and three-wheelers while Laurel Wires has a Rs. 30-crore project in Dhule to make enamel copper wires, copper wires and rods.
