First quarter direct tax receipts rise 25%, indirect tax 31%

The Centre’s direct tax collections in the first quarter of this fiscal amounted to Rs.1.24 lakh crore, which is 24.8 per cent higher than the corresponding period of the previous year, the government announced on Friday. Indirect tax collections during the period were Rs 1.99 lakh crore, up 30.8 per cent over the April-June period of the previous year. “The direct tax collections up to June 2016 indicate net revenue collection of Rs. 1.24 lakh crore which is a growth of 24.79 per cent over the corresponding period last year,” the government said in a statement.
