Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jyotiraditya Scindia has emphasised the need for a shift in export from northern hemisphere to southern hemisphere in line with south-south cooperation. He said that while advanced nations would show an import growth of around 0.9-1 per cent in future, developing economies would exhibit an import growth between 4.5 and 5 per cent.
Mr. Scindia was speaking at a function organised by the Federation of Indian Export Organisations here on Tuesday to present the Niryat Shree and the Niryat Bandhu awards 2008-09. The awards honour outstanding exporters, export promotion councils, commodity boards, export development authorities, banks and other agencies.
Highlighting the potential and complementaries of economies between India and Latin America, the Minister said India needed to augment its exports to Latin American countries as these were vibrant economies. “The government will chalk out a strategy to facilitate exports and investment after an in-depth study which will be commissioned shortly,” he added.
Earlier, the Minister felicitated 94 exporters across sectors and export related institutions by conferring gold, silver, bronze trophies and certificates of excellence.
Reliance Industries bagged the highest foreign exchange earner Niryat Shree award followed by Hyundai Motors India and Bajaj Auto. The Niryat Bandhu gold trophy was bagged by Bank of India, silver by Canara Bank and bronze by Punjab National Bank.
Earlier in his address, FIEO President A. Sakthivel appreciated the market diversification strategy and said that it would help India expand its export base.
MIOT Hospitals
The Niryat Shree bronze trophy in the service provider category was awarded to MIOT Hospitals in Chennai. “We have been recognised among the hospital services for generating the highest foreign exchange,” said MIOT overseas marketing manager Galal Ahmed Dawood.
Founded in 1999 by Dr. P. V. A. Mohandas with the vision of building a world-class hospital in India, MIOT began by specialising in orthopaedics and trauma and grew into a premier multi-specialty hospital.
“The award means a lot to the company as it shows we are well recognised in the industry. It will also go a long way in encouraging and promoting the hospital,” said Mr. Dawood. The hospital planned to add “sophisticated equipment… manpower and services” to provide the best medical treatment in the world, he added.
M. Sathyamoorthy, MIOT Associate Manager (Accounts and Finance) who was also present at the ceremony, spoke about the success of MIOT (CHIME) Charitable Trust established by MIOT Hospitals to provide funds for free heart surgeries for needy children suffering from congenital and rheumatic heart diseases.
