The Centre is planning an e-route for all government transactions, including receipts and payments, as part of Digital India programme. However, a senior official said the government is not particular on the mode of electronic transaction.
Commenting on the plans, Additional Secretary in the Department of Information Technology, Ajay Kumar said, “We are planning to avoid cash payments by enabling the electronic way. We have asked all ministries to work out a plan for this. The department will create a common application that can be used by all ministries.”
With the increasing internet and computer penetration through the broadband network, citizens can transact with all the departments digitally using e-payment gateways and banks.
“As mobile devices and smart phones are used for public interface, all central departments will soon offer citizen services on mobile,” added Mr. Kumar.
He said to make digital India a reality citizens should be empowered.
“To make it an inclusive programme and accessible to all, we are planning to bring 100 government websites in three languages. This is being done with industry participation,” he added.
Further, the government is also working with mobile phone manufacturers to support at least three vernacular languages in feature phones.
According to reports, more than 80 per cent mobile phone users are feature phone users.
