If you are an aspiring professional writer, you needn’t go to a foreign university for a super-expensive course. Bangalore’s world famous semi deluxe writing program promises to be a lifetime experience. The course, conducted by celebrated experts in their respective fields, will cover a range of genres, and delve deep into the craft of writing, in both fiction and non-fiction.

The benefits of the course include: The habit of writing regularly; t he confidence to write like a master; tools and techniques; to help you write with impact; the ability to look at one’s own writing critically and with the resolve to improve it; and an understanding of emerging market conditions and what it takes to succeed commercially as a writer.

The course has been conceptualised and led by Zac O’Yeah, author of the scintillating Mr. Majestic thrillers and travel writer, Anjum Hasan, author of the novels The Cosmopolitans , Neti, Neti and Lunatic in My Head , Difficult Pleasures and a book of poems Street on the Hill , and Eshwar Sundaresan, freelance journalist and author of Behind the Silicon Mask , Bangalored: the Expat Story , God Save the Toddy , among others.

Regarding the reason for starting a writing course, Zac claims: “There’s nothing like this in India. There have been individual workshops run by individual writers before, but those have been rather informal.” He adds that the programme is unique, as it will cover, “aspects on different kinds of writing. Samhita Arni is going to teach screenplay writing, Rohini Mohan, war correspondent who has worked in Sri Lanka, is going to teach non-fiction. I will teach travel and thriller writing, Anjum on fiction and poetry, Eshwar on literary concepts and business writing. The course will also cover poetry, editing, writing for children, literary criticism, translation...a vast range.”

Bengalureans have something to be proud of as the course will be taught by celebrated experts from the city. “The program is related to Bangalore as well,” says Zac, adding “There will be poetry about the city, travel writing in the city.”

The course will be held over three months, during weekend mornings, in a classroom where you will learn skills, understand craft, and try your hand at a range of genres, while using your spare time to complete assignments that will be reviewed by the faculty.

The course will be held at Shoonya, 4th Floor, Rear Wing, Brahmananda Court, Lal Bagh Main Road, starting July 23, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., for 12-weeks. Applications are now open.
