I still love watching movies, although I find the business of working in movies very tiresome!

“If I were to choose between theatre and movies today, I would blindly embrace theatre for the comprehensive team experience that the stage floor offers. Even if movies have meant the world to me, I have felt it is more clinical in comparison, as our roles emerge in isolation,” said actor Naseeruddin Shah.

The actor was in conversation with historian Ramachandra Guha in Bangalore, after the formal launch of his autobiography ‘And then One Day….a memoir’ earlier in the city.

Mr. Shah, 64, with nearly five decades of acting behind him said, “That is the sociological difference I find between theatre and movies. I still love watching movies, although I find the business of working in movies very tiresome!”

Bringing back memories of his love for cricket, when Mr. Guha asked him, “Whom would you vote for, Sachin or Rahul Dravid,” Mr. Shah said, “Well… Rahul Dravid,” and seeing the audience going ecstatic, he said, “I love Bangalore and its people. I always know that theatre personality B. Jayashri would make it big. I only feel bad she never comes to watch my plays,” he quipped.

The actor took the Q & A session from the audience rather sportingly. When asked what the serious actor’s future was, post the success of ‘The Dirty Picture, he said, “Don’t forget, ten years before ‘The Dirty Picture’ and Ooh La La happened ‘Tridev’ was released.

Perhaps 10 years from now on, one more such thing may come up when I would be nearly 74!”
