Practical effect has been given to resolution No. 1, by another resolution sanctioning Rs. 10,000 decidedly a meagre sum for the production and distribution of Khaddar and the opening of a depot at a suitable centre in Coimbatore. With this amount, a Khaddar depot has already been opened in Tiruppur, the busiest cotton centre and Khaddar producing place in Southern India. Tiruppur with a network of busy villages around and Coimbatore in general, has immense scope for Khaddar development, which if properly attended to, will give us Khaddar clothing enough for this province and to spare for others too. There is already the Kongu handspinning and weaving factory managed by Mr. P.D. Asher Sait, a member of the A.I.C.C. with a loan advanced by this committee, there is another enterprise for production of Khadi, perhaps the earliest that was started in this part of the country run by Mr. M.V. Karruppauna Chettiar. The newly started one is under the direct management of the secretary of this committee but with all these efforts, we have not been able to do full justice to the immense possibilities for Khaddar production. There are tens of thousands of Charkas lying idle as also several looms for sheer want of adequate funds.
